Ensuring the Workability of Your Office Chair's Gas Lift Cylinder
Before purchasing a replacement, it's crucial to measure the outer and inner diameters of your old gas lift cylinder. The universal replacement part typically features a 2" (50mm) outer cylinder diameter and a 1.1" (28mm) inner cylinder diameter.
To install the new gas lift cylinder:
- Tip the chair to its side.
- Use a mallet to tap and remove the chair base.
- Clamp a pipe wrench tightly to the top of the cylinder and twist/pull up to remove it.
- Remove the cap from the new cylinder.
- Insert the cylinder bottom into the center of the chair base.
- Carefully lift both the chair base and the chair cylinder into the chair mechanism. The parts will then fasten on their own.
