Ensuring the Gas Lift Cylinder Workability for Your Office Chairs Before purchasing a replacement, measure the outer and inner diameters of your old gas lift cylinder. The universal replacement parts come with an outer cylinder diameter of 2" (50mm) and an inner cylinder diameter of 1.1" (28mm).
Installing the Gas Lift Cylinder 1. Tip the chair to its side. 2. Use a mallet to tap and remove the chair base. 3. Use a pipe wrench to clamp tightly to the cylinder top, then twist and pull up to remove the cylinder. 4. Remove the new cylinder cap. 5. Insert the cylinder bottom into the center of the chair base. 6. Carefully lift both the chair base and the chair cylinder into the chair mechanism. The parts will then fasten on their own.
